Hi folks,

Much to talk about, so let's get to it. First up, the new Lightroom CC/6!

The new Lightroom is here!

In case you were concerned, our CE4 series plugins for Lightroom’s Web module work just fine under LrCC/6. If you’re already running the latest plugin versions, then no further updates are necessary to rock CE4 in the new Lightroom.

For a complete rundown of what’s new in LrCC/6, I recommend checking out Victoria Bampton’s post at LightroomQueen.com. There's some very cool stuff in there, so do get up to speed.

At The Turning Gate, we concern ourselves primarily with the Web module, so here are my thoughts on that in LrCC/6 …

At last, Adobe scraps the Flash gallery; good riddance to bad rubbish, I say. In its place we have three new HTML5 galleries – Grid, Square and Track – the the Lightroom HTML Gallery returning as “Classic”. These new galleries don’t bring much to the table, being severely anemic in options and features. The new galleries are not exciting, but neither are they threatening; Adobe isn’t putting us out of business just yet.

More exciting, the revamped Web preview is a big improvement. The APE has been put down, and the Chromium Embedded Framework has taken its place in both the Web and Map modules. The version at play is still a bit out-of-date compared to recent browser releases, but that’s ever been the case with Lightroom’s Web preview, and the new version is streets ahead of its predecessor. I’ll take it!

The new preview browser offers better support for CSS3 properties, a prettier, and less obtrusive scrollbar, and general performance improvements. What really matters to me, though, is that we finally have a preview browser that is comparable in capability to modern web-browsers. This will allow us to do better things down the road, about which I am simply jazzed.

Get your chat on in the new TTG Facebook Group

We’ve opened a TTG Users’ Group on Facebook! This is a place to mingle with other TTG users. Start conversations, share your sites, insights and experiences, make friends. We hope this will be a great opportunity for users to socialize and support each other.

I will need to approve memberships, so join the group now! The sooner I can approve your membership, the sooner you can post.

For tech support, though, we really want to use the existing community forum. Hopefully we can maintain the line between the two venues.

But wait, there's more ...

I'm cutting the blog short here, but there's more to see in our latest newsletter, viewable online here.
